Howard Homeward Bound?

On the eve of the playoff 2nd leg match between Derby and Southampton Geordie hitman Steve Howard is desperate to fire Derby into the Premiership and ever closer to playing at the home where so many of his heroes have played St James’ Park.

However after scoring twice during the first leg giving Derby the advantage in the tie Howard could easily be distracted by the attention he has been receiving this season after notching up 19 league goals. The £1million man has put to bed any early season doubts that troubled Derby fans after his big money move by leading the line in a similar to Alan Shearer. Obviously the 31 year olds best years could be behind him but prepare for lower Premiership clubs to battle out for his signature if Derby don’t make the grade at this attempt. Howard wont have too many seasons left if he wants to walk out in front of 52,000 Geordie’s but this could be his year.

Prediction:
Derby 2 vs 0 Southampton Tuesday Skysports 1 7.45pm

Well as much as i might agree with your prediction that Derby will win the tie with Southampton but i do think it will be a bit closer than 2-0. Possibly 1-0 or 1-1 and obviously Derby would still go up. I dont agree with your prediction about Steve Howard, he is a bit past it and a championship player at best who probably couldnt hack it at prem level- but he may still get the chance to prove me wrong if Derby do in fact get promoted but cant see many teams wanting to sign him if they don't go up(Alan Shearer reference haha). In my opinion giles barnes will be the player that most prem clubs will have their eyes on if Derby fail to gain promotion- i could even see a team like Arsenal or the ever midfielder hungry spurs sign him up, would love to see Newcastle sign him but cant see it happening.
If West Brom fail to go up then curtis davies could well be on his way and would not be suprised to see him end up at toon but Newcastle need premiership experience not championship experience.Obviously the main attraction from the championship will be a certain Gareth Bale and can see many a big club chasing after him as he is a quality player in the making.
My prediction wll be that West Brom will be promoted though beating Derby County in a tight affair in the final. Think Derby probably deserve it on merit but how often is it that a 3rd placed team win the play offs???

For the record, I agree. Howard's s**t.
