Fat Sam The Right Man For The Toon?

It’s the 14th of May and according to the reliable, honest and hard working staff at the Sun Fat Sam will be confirmed as Newcastle manager today and they were quick to point out that they called it as early as last week.

However, I have spoken to many Newcastle fans whose opinions are mixed on the appointment. Some fans have told me that they will welcome the organisation and teamwork ethic that Fat Sam will bring to the club. To Rich and myself that sounds exactly the same words used to describe the Scottish man of rage Mr Souness himself. Now I’m not saying for a second that Fat Sam is Souness, without a trophy, but if fans are wanting work rate to be a big factor then these are the same reasons Souness was appointed

Fat Sam has done a great job at Bolton, lets not take that away from him and he clearly can spot a bargain, but can he manage to see a talent when the guys price tag is £8m+? Maybe he wont even bother with big name signings as he has never really needed them before.
Dean Ashton has been linked as his first capture, so he can continue his long ball knockdowns. Hey it worked for Shearer and Bellamy, it worked for Phillips and Quinn and it could come back to Newcastle. Long have Newcastle fans been entertained but won nothing maybe this is the time to throw that out the window and end up nicking 1-0 wins.

Well Mr Hope it seems the sun were one day too early as it will be Tuesday the official unveiling of Big Sam.It could be a major turning point in Newcastle's fortunes or a huge mistake....only time will tell but i for one hope its the first option. I've already spoken of my opinions on the "bunghandler" but if its all for success and im a Newcastle fan to the core and i only want success for the toon whoever is in charge and in reference to Mr Mccarthy from the people newspaper if u think that Newcastle fans are stupid look in the mirror and ask yourself if you really know what u are talking about when it comes to football if you criticise Newcastle fans for not wanting an ex mackem in charge of our club- Newcastle fans are proud of their club and they do not want an ex mackem in charge, Local pride means more to some fans than winning any silverware or being in the champions league- i have to question whether this bloke understands what local rivalry means! Could you see Souness taking charge of Celtic or Walter Smith taking charge either......no.
The same applies to Newcastle and Sunderland and this is quite possibly the biggest rivalry in the country old firm excluded- dont try and tell me the families of liverpool all hate each other- they are clubs in the same city. newcastle and sunderland are 2 different cities and full of football lovers battling for local pride.May i take this opportunity to thank the very stupid sunderland fans who appeared on youtube today burning a baby newcastle united shirt...firstly for buying our merchandise and putting money in our club and showing us all what pathetic tossers you all are.
Getting back to big sam and the souness link anyway...yes they are both known for their discipline and teamwork ethic but there is one thing that souness lacked and that was the tactical knowledge- u cant really question som of souness's logic by buying scott parker and maybes at a push michael owen. the others such as boumsong and luque showed that he also had the nack of panic buying and not being able to spot a decent defender when he saw one. Big Sam on the otherhand has had very little money to spend but done well with what he has been given. lets look at the facts.. anelka cost 9mill or so his most expensive signing(same price as luque remember) stellios an absloute bargain, okocha- legend. and who can forget gary speed (who i hear is ready to jump at the chance to work on Big Sams coaching staff) 250,000, and probably the most hated player in the country ....diouf, love him or hate him (most ppl hate him) he has performed under big sam, it does beg the question will sam get the best out of players like parker, butt, and emre to name a few... we will wait and see.
Well the second i said if we are gunna take bets on which manager would leave the club first two leave in the same day. Mr Pearce and jewell so no bets taken yet!
One thing before i go lads Oba Martins must leave the toon, he feigned an injury this weekend refusing to sit on the bench...sound familiar>>bellamy?? If bellamy got kicked out of club then so should this pathetic excuse of wearng the newcastle shirt just like another huffy player n zogbia who has been the main underacheiver this season.

Do you really think those Sunderland fans BOUGHT that item of clothing? Could they afford it? Seems to me they must have stolen it, possibly from a passing child. At least they took the child out before setting it on fire.

You know fine well that Sunderland fans know how to take little children out of clothes, they're all Dad's by the age of 14.

Rich, we all know currency stops of value somewhere close to Jarrow.... anyway.

I think Sam could be a big step in the right direction for the Toon.

However, I think success will hinge upon his ability to inject some want back into a lack-lustre squad.

The likes of Martins or Luque don't genuinely want to be there. I don't think they have the stomach for the Premier League.

Martins would probably flourish at somewhere like Arsenal - a club with a continental feel.

10m may have bought 17 goals for the Toon this season, but where did they finish again?

I hope fat freddy doesn't open the coffers for Sam to simply buy another intake of continental fancymen.

If Allardyce was offered the seemingly bottomless purse, I can see him being tempted.

I think Newcastle need a good spring clean out and a remodelling around their strengths - no nonsense players such as Taylor.

Build on your strengths and get a strong core of players. It'll make for a more balanced team.

Maybe look to the lower leagues - Lescott at Everton as an example. Plucked from Wolves, the boy has shined for us this season.

Sam needs to plug the leaks and make the ship seaworthy (that was horrendous - sorry).

Bolton earned a reputation as a hard-working, difficult team to break.

Much of their success stemmed from the times they shut up shop and ground out wins and draws when they rightly shouldn't have.

Critics said it was ugly, but points mean prizes.

Players want to play for a team that they see is tight.

Remember, they play against each other season after season, and know when their opposition is worth playing for.

Alot of teams with less money have done better than Newcastle.

Look at the team spirit and worth ethic of Everton, Reading or Portsmouth.

Its about team balance, spirit and the ability to beat Fulham at home...

And where does Micky porcelain legs fit in? Not with Sam's style of management me thinks.

Rant over

Alright Alex? Cheers for reading, you've made a good point there. What you're saying (it seems) is stop signing stars and start signing players you actually need! A functional transfer policy is far more sound than a Galactico strategy. I think the question is - has it been successive managers who've been desperate to bring in these stars, or has Fat Fred been doing it against their wishes? We'll see, cos Sam won't want Prima Donnas, and if more come in, I guess we'll know its Freddy pulling the strings. Like with Duff - everyone knew they didn't need a winger, but they were getting him whilst Sol Campbell went to Pompey! Crazy. The Chairman's need to buy players who sell shirts may put him and Allardyce on a collision course before long though.
