Thank f**k for that!
Well that's the summer out of the way, such as it was. Wet, cold, and more photos of Carlos Tevez on football sites than we ever cared to see. But mid-August has rolled around again, which means it's time for the footy season to rescue us from the sharp things we had lined up, ready to end it all in a frenzy of blade, flesh and gore. Or maybe that was just me, who knows? What I do know, is that I'm f**king sick of thinking about football all summer, without being able to see any. That's why I stopped writing for a while, a few technical problems meant I couldn't for a week or two, but by and large, I was so depressed without football I couldn't even write about it without missing it even more. But it's back, so screw that - The Late Flag is back, and here to stay.
What you can expect from us this season is so far largely undecided. All we know for certain is that I'll be doing a weekly round up of the winners and losers in the Premiership and in Europe, and Drew will be bringing you more of his "whatever happened to..." articles, if he can find out whatever happened to anybody interesting. He plans to try.
Other than that though, we've no firm plans, we'll just be bringing you our cynical, slightly warped views on the world of football, and mouthing off about anything which p**ses us off. That'll be lots. I Promise. But, as always, we could use your help, so please, please comment on our articles, we'll reply to your comments, and sometimes even steal them to create new posts. We need your contributions to keep us fresh and keep the discussion moving. It's also quite nice to know people are actually reading.
I'm not going to give you a season preview - every f**ker in footyland has provided one of those, if you want to read one, click one of our links to the right of the screen and you can find some there. What I do want to share with you though, are my ideas of which teams will overacheive (compared to public expectation) and which will underachieve.
Overachievers:
Fulham - Some good solid signings, and call me crazy, but I think Kamara and Healy has the makings of a quality strikeforce.
Portsmouth - More quality signings this summer to back up last year's investment. Watch out for Sulley Muntari, a class act of a midfielder.
Sunderland - Not made the huge transfer strides many expected, but Gordon will be a revelation. Chopra will be hungry for goals, but I'm tipping Daryl Murphy to have a breakthrough year, and Carlos Edwards to impress.
Underachievers:
Everton - A quiet summer so far for the Toffees, and in the Premier League, standing still is going backwards. I expect them to be a casualty of increased competition in the top half.
Blackburn - As above.
Bolton - Personally I'd love to see Sammy Lee succeed, but I can't see it. Bolton to collapse without Fat Sam, surprise relegation candidates for me.

im probably only going to have one chance to say this all season an once man unitd and chelsea have played we prob wont be anymore but screw it...WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE SAY WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE
Well that's your first wrong prediction of the season! You've stayed top. Enjoy that, it won't be lasting. What a goal by Martins though!
I'd laugh my arse off if Owen couldn't get in the team.
And lost his England place.
Oh, and before I forget - Steve Gerrard, Gerrard, he'll pass the ball 40 yards...
yep i was really wrong but thought chelsea were gunna steal it from us our only crowning moment of the season! we will drop down inevitably on wednesday but we will have a ganme in hand all be it against arsenal but time will tell how well they can do away from home. Liverpool v lucky and it was never a free kick for their winning goal but well done stevie getting me some points for my dream team! what was carragher thinking!
martins showed some class for that goal and we all know owen will get back in the team straight away but he doesnt deserve it
I'd loan him out to Hull or somewhere to get some fitness. Imagine his face!
