Nando Torresally Worth It?
Don’t worry folks with headlines like this you could be easily fooled into thinking you’re reading an article from The Sun. I assure you we have nothing to do with them, even though you all know its every Liverpool fans favourite newspaper……
Everybody knows that Nando Torres is a class act but is he class enough to warrant a £26m plus transfer deal?
Liverpool need a goal scorer, any football fan would see that but buying a striker who hasn’t hit 20+ league goals ever is a huge risk considering that’s what they need. However, Torres has scored goals at a very deprived team and his international record during World Cup year was 10 goals in 15 games which is more like a £26m rated striker. This could mean that Torres is getting into the positions at Madrid but, his team mates are such twaddle that they cant even hit Fat Frank Lampard with a ball from 5 yards out (I know you think that’s impossible but its true.) With the quality players involved in the Spanish national team this is obviously a factor in scoring more goals. Therefore Torres, given time to settle, could be devastating running onto through-balls from Gerrard, Alonso, and even the crossing abilities of Pennant could be a feature more this season.

Liverpool need 1 or 2 quality players as the foundations there are solid so spending £26m on 4 players is something they really don’t need right now. There’s no doubt that Torres will improve this team and that’s what counts most to a title chasing side. If Torres is unable to score goals just watch how many goals he creates or watch how he drags the defenders away from goal leaving the like of Kuyt to grab more this season.

well exciting times ahead for liverpool with this top quality strikr and will spell the end of bellamys career at the kop, he will not get another chance at a big club- torres has it all to do now as the expectations of loads of liverpool fans now rest on his shoulders....can he live up to it?? time will tell
Well he had to carry Atletico for many a year while he was there, he was also captain and had to score goals because no one else did.
It will be different for him because he was idolised in Madrid because he is the only World class player there, now playing for Liverpool he will be going into this season not as the best player but as the 3rd or 4th.
one thing i aint gonna argue (talking to u doug). has liverpool ever had such a high profile player in recent days? atletico said 'see you later to torres' and then signed diego forlan who in spain is a good signing and who knows adequate cover for torres?
And the likes of Cisse, Morientes and Kuyt werent high profile signings at the time? i remember a lot of clubs interested in those players just like there is interest in Torres. Cisse probably scored more league goals in his homeland, so did Kuyt and even Morientes bagged a sack full of goals.
haha no arguments jimmy!
if i think back a few years when liverpool signed cisse it was all the talk of the prem but then houllier left and he was stuck with a manager who didnt want him and for whatever other reason liverpool didnt work out for him- he didnt seem to be abke to cut it in this league (not the only player to play well in other leagues otherthan this one remember hugo viana) torres may be different and his international record may prove this but we wont know until we see how he settles- i would say his lack of english may have hindered him but most of liverpool speak spanish these days so that wont be a problem! kuyt isnt an out and out scorer and he was in holland for feyenoord but his international record was poor and he was v poor for them in world cup so he may get a few more with torres in his team but i still think liverpool may have wasted their money on him but it may be money well spent finally on torres
What you have to remember though is that i dont think Liverpool would have been able to get anyone better than Torres. Arsenal wouldnt sell Henry to an English club. Trezeguet signed a new deal at Juve. Tevez in my opinion isnt as good a all round player like Torres is. David Villa again is a better version of Bellamy, Villa is more pace than creativity, flair, strength and heading where Torres has all of that. Owen well is an England player rather than a Newcastle one, and is still a wanker by the way.
