Hoops 40 years on
40 years ago tomorrow on the 25th of may 1967, 11 men within a 30-mile radius of Glasgow, became the first British team in history to lift the European Cup
40 years on, it is still the most celebrated cup run in Celtics illustrious history, although it is followed closely behind by Celtics 2003 UEFA Cup run, where they took 100,000 fans to Seville. To quote the famous hoops fans during the final “were only here for the party”
To honour that amazing day in Lisbon, Celtic have released a new kit, its a more modern day version of the hoops kit of that famous season in 1967, where Celtic picked up every trophy they entered that year.

transfer rumour
Newcastle, apparently are trying to sign a Belgian striker called Fracois Sterchele, 25 years old, 6 foot 1 inch, top scorer in Belgium with 21 goals in 28 games, from Germinal Beerschot and has made 1 appearance for Belgium. Is this gonna be a Sam Allardyce special of signing an unknown and turnung him into a decent player.
could be my friend, although i have only heard about Baines and Gudjohnsen. to be fair though every season theres players linked with Newcastle and nothing comes of it. With the new takeover coming into play its going to be extra pressure on Sam. For one does Sam know exactly how much he has got to spend? If Mr Ashley takesover you'd expect there to be more money, but what happens if Fat Sam has already stregthened his team with the expected £15m off Fat Fred? those players could have to leave within a matter of months.
Also we saw this at West Ham, what happens if the new owner looks at the first couple of results and decides that this isnt the right man to spend all of his money?
Once again during Pre-season Newcastle United will be focusing on what happens behind the scenes ie the board, rather than focusing on signings or the actual team.
I'm just reading this again, and it's 40 years since the whole "Lisbon Lions" thing, right? But by and large, Celtic have done f**k all else in Europe since, when you compare them to the other huge clubs (which they are) in Europe. AC Milan, Liverpool, Man U, Real, Barca, Inter, Bayern...Celtic are right up there with that lot, they have the history, the ground, the fans, the city...so why can't they get anywhere in Europe?
Quite simply, because the Scottish league is crap. Only the likes of Zurawski, Hesselink and Nakamura will go there, and good players as they are, they won't win the major European trophies. Money is also an issue, even if Ronaldinho had a fancy for Green & White hoops they couldn't afford him.
So to summarise - Celtic have a great history, but no present and surely not much of a glittering future, unless you enjoy hordes of by now meaningless Scottish trophies. They're a massive club - but they don't have the pull or the cash to compete with the other massive clubs.
Time to come to the Premiership? Discuss.
time to come to the premiership??? no way let the c***s rot in the spl like the rest of the pathetic excuses for football clubs, england premier league is exactly what it says on the tin england if we do that then newcastle might as well say we are doing shi* in the english league so why not join the irish league at least we might win something. to me if it aint broke dont fix it but f**k the scottish they wouldnt give a f**k about england
Bearing in mind Celtic qualified from their Champions League group ahead of Benfica, and only lost to AC Milan thanks to a Kaka raker, wouldn't they improve the Premiership though?
I when you look at their European exploits in the last few years, they're well better than Everton, Spurs, Bolton, Blackburn etc. If you made the big four some sort of big 6, and had the likes of teams mentioned above challenging for UEFA spots should a big 6 team have a bad year, the top of the table could become WAY more competetive. Think about all the extra big games and the pressure put on the big sides to win, Chelsea might go to Bolton knowing they had to win or drop 4 places...when does that ever happen now? At most, Liverpool Arsenal and Man U would be above them, and that's only if they were having a really s**t time of things.
For me, the positives outweigh the negatives. And for all we talk about it being the English Premiership, are we saying we wouldn't let Cardiff in if they won the Championship? I doubt it.
oh dont we all love the welsh though haha but im sure cardiff would be disapointed if they cam for a game in england as there arent too many sheep next to a premiership football stadium unless you count sunderland or is that just dogs???? ouch!
